Tym Stark’s Rehabilitation - Day 36

Day 36 - Saturday 10/27/07

Leaving RISB Into the Hummer

At the mall At the Elephant Bar

Tym is now considered a “Phase 2″, as you can see from the pictures, that means he can be signed out by a family member and taken off-site for short outings. We couldn’t be more excited. Neither could Tym. We tried to surprise him and let him pick what he wanted to do or eat, but he’s so amenable that we ended up picking for him. We picked Red Robin, one of his previously favorite restaurants, but the location had been closed down. That’s why we were standing around at the mall. We ended up at Elephant Bar instead.

We had a great time out at dinner, and Tym enjoyed having real food, and getting out of the rehab institute. We had good conversations and a lot of laughs. Tym laughed so hard that his face was beet red, and he claimed his ribs were hurting (they were broken during CPR). He participated well in the conversations, and was very polite and well mannered at the dinner table. We asked him about where he planned on going for his post-acute care, and he said that he thinks Bakersfield is “too far” and he’d rather be in Orange County.

Tym did exhibit memory problems, which is normal. He continued to ask where his wallet was, and where his “new” truck was. He was however, very aware of his current situation and surroundings. We jokingly offered Tym the keys to drive home with, and he said, “No, I can’t drive. I’m not allowed to drive.” Also, when Tym’s brother Mitch was pulling out of the parking lot, Tym said “Be careful, there’s a guy on a bicycle. Don’t hit him.”

Tym later asked about his cellphone, and whether people were trying to reach him. I explained that everyone knows he’s in the rehab institute and that they are leaving messages for him on the website. He does read your messages, so please keep it up. You can address Tym directly if you want. Please keep the messages for Tym short and simple.

Reminder - If you plan to visit, please post a note here, and we will coordinate your request so as not to interfere with therapy, evaluations, and other visits.

Glad to hear he got a chance at some real food. Before we moved to Florida, we enjoyed eating at the Elephant Bar & Grill too. Not only is the food good, but it’s fun sitting outdoors and watching the planes come in an out. Happy to hear things are going so well. Tym and all of you remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Tym, you look great! The pictures are beautiful of you and your family. I’m sure you are recovering at the rate you are, because you are surrounded by so much love. I’d like to come visit you on Monday, November 5th, if possible. Afternoon would be great, but I can do evening too. Let me know if that will work with your schedule.

    Love, Diana

    Hi Tym,

I am really excited about your progress. Keep up the great work with your therapy. Glad to see that you were able to get our with family for a while. I don’t know if I will be able to get down to see you again before you move down south or not. Just know that I and the your group continue to pray for your rapid recovery.

I got back from attending the first Fall Men’s Conference at Hume Lake yesterday (Sunday). Speakers were Stu Weber, Ken Hutcherson and Steve Farrar. It was a great 4 days. It’s definitely something to consider attending next Fall. The main speaker next year will be Tony Evans.

Keep you eyes focus on God brother.

    Hello Tym,
I wrote awhile back and said I would like to send you a jersey from the Lompoc Valley Distance Club half-marathon that you ran in. You didn’t get to pick up your shirt and I would love to bring it down to you and meet you. I was one of the volunteers that helped organize the race. I would like to come this Friday , November 2nd if that can be made to work. Let me know.
